"Delusion" is very, very pigmented which I absolutely love! And all of their colors are the exact same way. I feel like this makes applying eyeshadow soooooo much easier because it doesn't require a zillion coats to see the color on your lid. On the B. Koi site, you can view all of their shadow colors and see photos of how the colors look when applied to skin. That is awesome because you can get an a idea ahead of time of what the colors are actually going to look like once you apply them! I was heading out to a cookout but was trying to create a look to match my very teal sun dress. I grabbed "Delusion" for the first time and really loved the deep color on my lid. The best part was it never creased, faded or smeared in the 8 hours I was outside in the hot sun. This is hard to accomplish, even with an eyeshadow primer. Now, that is why I say DELUSION is a great product. (Before anyone makes negative comments, I was not paid nor given free products to review this eyeshadow. I just love to share when I find a great product!) Here is my 'Delusion" inspired eyeshadow tutorial. Enjoy! :-)
The "Delusion" eyeshadow look only needs three colors: Delusion, a sparkling Silver cream shadow and a shimmer white for a highlight (or any soft color of your choice). You also need a white eyeliner and some black mascara. I used an e.l.f. mascara because I am still shopping around, trying to find a mascara that I really love and doesn't require a lot of coats for my naturally long lashes. As for brushes, I used 2 small, flat e.l.f. eyeshadow brushes and a blending brush. Use whatever feels comfortable for you. :-)
- Apply a eyelid primer or concealer to your eyelid and a small line under your lower lash line. Blend well.
- Use an eyeshadow brush to apply a deep coat of "Delusion" to your eyelid, avoiding the outside corner. Just pat this pretty teal color to 3/4 of your lid from the inner eye corner to the crease, leaving the remaining 1/4 of the lid near the outside corner blank. I only needed one coat for the deep shade.
- Use the flip side of the brush to add the silver cream shadow to the remaining 1/4 corner and lid. It should be a very pigmented color, with lots of sparkle. I used a sample of 'Silver Bells" that I received from eBay and it did not have a brand labeled on it. I'll try to find it and post a link to the product. Pat it in well, forming a triangle point in your outside corner. Then use the brush without adding anymore color and make windshield wiper motions across the crease of your eye.
- With a new brush, apply your chosen highlight to your brow bone under your eyebrow. Bring the color down to your inner corner to open the eyes up.
- Use the blending brush to work the Silver color from your outside corner up to the bottom of your brow bone. The best method is small circular motions starting in the outside corner and working it across your crease. Make sure to blend in any harsh lines where the colors meet on the lid as well as where the highlight meets the silver. Blending is probably the most important step in adding dimension to your lid but without mixing the colors together. You should just blend the colors together slightly at the point where they meet, never extending into the actual colors.
- Take the tip of the blending brush and dip it into the "Delusion" color. Use this to line the area directly below your lower lashes. Use the white liner on your water line. Gently press right below your bottom lashes to expose the inner line. Adding white eyeliner here is perfect for a daytime look because it softens the eye and really gives a 'bright' eye appearance.
- Draw a small white line at your upper lash line just like you normally apply the black liquid/gel liner in previous tutorials. Then, add more 'Delusion" to your brush and apply it directly to this line. Adding it atop the white liner softens the colors just a little and adds more depth to your look. It works just like a eyeliner because it is so pigmented.
- Curl your lashes just to 'open' the eyes a little more and apply the mascara of your choice!
Thanks again to B. Koi Cosmetics and DJ Murphy for a terrific product!
