L.A. Colors Eyeshadow Tutorial: Flirty Pink, Blue & Purple

Hi guys! I realized I have been posting lots lately but like I said before, I am trying to add my content from the previous blog to this one. Anyways, this look is a super fun and flirty look using shimmery pinks and blues, which we know when combined gives a very beautiful purple shade. By layering pink and blue then shading in specific areas to achieve the purple color really adds depth to the eye versus using just a pink and purple eyeshadow. This way the colors flow from pink to purple with just a hint of blue in the background.

Again, I always list the colors first, followed by the actual products I used. This way you can dupe the shades to achieve similar results. The part I enjoy most about my Pink + Blue = Purple look is that the colors are not applied to be super bright but instead, are very subtle, soft girlie colors so you can wear this anytime. For a dramatic, night look, I would really pack the colors on for a WoW factor.

Because my kids know all about my makeup obsession, they bought me 4 different L.A. Eyeshadow palettes for Mother's Day. This brand is really inexpensive so to be honest I wasn't expecting a good product (even though I would never mention this to my little girls). But the deep pigmentation of the colors really surprised me (see the pic of the colors on my fingers below!) Because they were so excited to give me this great gift, I promised I would do a tutorial using the colors, in honor of my daughters. Check out my Mother's Day makeup from my three angels below the article! Let's get started!

What You Need: Remember, use what you have! If you do not have the powder L'oreal eyeliner, just use any black eyeliner of your choice. I used 5 colors because I really wanted to achieve a total girlie eye that flowed from the softest pink to shimmer violet with just a hint of blue. You can use just three colors for a simpler look: shimmer pink, metallic blue and a highlight color.

Grab The Look:
  1. With your finger, apply an eye primer (concealer or cream eyeshadow works well, too) all over your eyelid to your brow bone. Use whatever is left on your finger to rub a little primer under your lower lashline. Let dry.
  2. Using a fluffy eyeshadow brush (I used the Covergirl brush), apply the lightest pink shimmer color to your entire lid up to the crease. Because these colors are so bright, pat the color on instead of sweeping it across the lid to avoid a lot of fall out on your face. Depending upon the pigmentation of your chosen color, you may need several coats. The L.A. color I used needed only one coat for a bright, all over pink. Always tap off any access eyeshadow off the brush before applying it to your lid. Run the brush under your lower lash line without adding any more color to the brush. Avoid adding any pink to 1/3 of the lower lash line, nearest the outer corner.
  3. With the other side of the same brush, apply the darker pink color to the very center of your eyelid. This is easiest if you imagine your lid separated into thirds. Add the color to the brush, tap off any access and pat this darker pink onto the inner third up to the crease line. With whatever is left on the brush, run it back and forth across the crease area to create a thin line.
  4. Add the metallic blue color to the shorter eyeshadow brush and tap off any access. Add this color to the outer 1/3 of your eyelid, creating a "V" The point of the "V" should be aligned with your outer corner, covering 1/3 of the lid up to the crease. Then, without adding more color, run the brush back and forth across the center 1/3 of the pink line we created under the lower lash line, keeping the 1/3 closest to the inner corner of the eye pink. Continue running the brush back and forth across this line until the desired purple color is reached. I ended up with a very shimmery, violet color. The result should be pink fading into purple and ending with metallic blue.
  5. With the crease brush, add the matte standard blue color across your crease in windshield wiper motions. Don't worry about blending out the harsh lines, just concentrate on adding this color to the crease.
  6. With the other side of the crease brush, add your highlight color to the highest point in your brow and work it down to the inner corner. Adding the lightest color to the inner corner will really open up the eye!
  7. Now its time to blend and blend and blend. This is where your personal preference comes in to play. You should blend the pinks shades and blue matte color you applied to the crease into a soft purple. Gently blend out the harsh lines where the colors meet on the eyelid but do not blend so much all the colors mix together. The lid should flow nicely from pink, to darker pink, to purple with the very tip of the outside corner metallic blue. The blue should rise slightly to cover the bottom of the lower brow bone and blend into purple across the crease to the inner corner.
  8. Add black eyeliner to both the water line and upperlash line. Apply several coats of mascara to finish the look. Check out the pic below to see how my fun and flirty (and very girlie) eyeshadow came out!

I had already applied my normal foundation, concealer and powder before starting the eyes (click here for my every day foundation routine.) I used a pale pink blush (Maybelline Mineral Powder Naturally Luminous Blush) on the apples of my cheeks and Victoria's Secret (can't see a color name on the tube) pink shimmer lipgloss. I felt because my eyes were focused on pinks, purples and blues, the rest of my face needed very little color so i focused on keeping it light and feminine.
